Getting to Tekapo

Driving from:

• Christchurch: drive south on Highway 1. Turn off at Geraldine and follow Highway 79 through to Fairlie.  Don't pass by without sampling a world-famous Fairlie Bakehouse Pie!  Turn right on to Highway 8 at Fairlie and carry on anoher 30 mins to Lake Tekapo.

• Queenstown: drive north along Highway 6 to Cromwell. Take Highway 8a past the Cromwell township, across Lake Dunstan to Highway 8. Turn left on to Highway 8 through Omarama and Twizel to Lake Tekapo.

• Dunedin: drive north along Highway 1 to Pareora River Rd in Saint Andrews. Continue on Pareora River Rd. Take Pareora Gorge Rd to State Highway 8 in Cave. Turn left onto State Highway 8 (signs for Route 8/Fairlie).
