Mt Hay Farm Experience

The Mt. Hay Farm experience offers an authentic glimpse into the heart of New Zealand’s high-country farming.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Tekapo and the Southern Alps, this immersive tour highlights the dedication and craftsmanship that go into sustainable farming, providing a memorable and educational experience for all.

The shearing experience is more than just an agricultural demonstration; it’s an opportunity to connect with the region’s rich farming traditions and understand the hard work and dedication that go into producing some of the world’s finest wool.

You’ll learn about the importance of Merino wool in the global market, the sustainable practices used in its production, and the significance of wool in New Zealand’s agricultural heritage. The experience also provides insights into the shearers’ lifestyle, the training required for their craft, and the role of shearing in the overall farm operation.

The experience also includes an impressive sheepdog demonstration, showcasing the remarkable intelligence and agility of these trained dogs as they expertly herd the sheep across the rugged terrain.

Mount Hay Station Guided 4WD Tour

The four wheel drive tours show you the most beautiful views in the Mackenzie High Country: do not forget your camera!

Want an exciting way to explore the Mackenzie High Country? Look no further than a tour of Mount Hay Station, a working Merino sheep farm just 5km outside of Lake Tekapo. The four wheel drive farm vehicles are made for the terrain, and the local guides are psyched to take you on some of the thrilling adventures.

Jump in and listen to your guide give background on their 25,000 acre farm which has been in their family for nearly 100 years. Spot some of the farm residents along the way, consisting of 12,000 Merino sheep, 700 Angus cows, 30 alpacas, 25 horses and 15 working dogs! You can also spot many wild animals around the farm too.

Discover some of the bird life on the farm at one of the tarns you will pass, whilst passing through the scenery all around Mount Edward and the Tekapo saddle. Hold on to your seats as you then climb Mount Hay where you have fantastic views back to the Lake Tekapo Township, Mount John, along the lake and into the Aoraki Mount Cook national park!

Explore Phantom Lagoon next, with its beautiful waters in a scenic location and enjoy small refreshments. After this, you will hear the stories of Boundary Creek Hut and finish the tour with stunning views down Lake Tekapo as you make the steep descent back to town.

High Country Station Tour

A 2-hour guided high country farm tour takes you deep into the heart of Mt Hay Station — a vast 50,000-acre working property just outside of Tekapo. You’ll discover epic landscapes, meet a variety of friendly farm animals, and enjoy an authentic taste of Kiwi station life.

The photo opportunities are endless — from sweeping alpine views to cheeky alpacas — so don’t forget your camera!

Travel in comfort and style in a 12-seater 4WD Mercedes Sprinter van, perfectly equipped for both smooth and bumpy farm tracks. Large windows give everyone a clear view as you’ll explore remote areas and favourite scenic stops. Tours are capped at just 10 guests, so you get small-group warmth with big-landscape drama.

Small game hunting on a High Country Station – now during the night! Join our experienced farming team as they carry out essential pest control at night, using the latest thermal technology.

This unique tour offers the excitement of rabbit hunting after dark. From the comfort of our 4WD hunting truck, you’ll use a fitted thermal scope to spot and shoot targets in complete darkness. Our trained guides will walk you through firearm safety, land management, and responsible pest control in a safe, controlled environment.

Big Game Hunting

Fully guided Big Game hunting tour in Lake Tekapo up to 10 hours.

You will hunt in free range private farm land in a 4WD truck so aren’t able to guarantee the animals that you will find during the tour.

Fish Tekapo Guided Tour

Located in the spectacular Mackenzie High Country, the crystal clear waters of the Lake Tekapo Canal is home to both Brown & Rainbow Trout, and Chinook Salmon.

Easy access combined with large fish and outstanding natural beauty make the Lake Tekapo Canals one of the most popular fresh water fishing spots in New Zealand and offer anglers the opportunity to bag the catch of a lifetime. Trout weighing more than 4.5kg are common, whilst larger Trout weighing 10-13kg do get caught occasionally. The Canal Salmon weigh in between 1-4kg.
