Relaxed Kiwi bach living in the heart of Tekapo. Set an easy 10 minute walk from the lakefront and village centre, Araki is a renovated older-style holiday home offering a relaxed and comfortable base for families and small groups.

Upstairs, the kitchen, dining and living area is spacious and welcoming, opening onto a sunny deck where you can sit back and soak up the spectacular alpine surroundings. The modern, fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare holiday meals, including a Nespresso coffee machine, with a BBQ also available for easy outdoor cooking. There’s plenty of comfortable seating in the living area, along with a flat-screen TV, Netflix and a selection of books for quiet evenings at home. A heat pump keeps things comfortable year-round, while the traditional potbelly log burner adds a cosy touch on cooler evenings.

Downstairs, the master queen bedroom has its own ensuite, while the other three bedrooms share a second bathroom. The lower level also features a large second living area with its own log fire – a wonderful space for the kids to relax, play and enjoy their own downtime while the adults make the most of the upstairs living area. A Tesla electric vehicle charger is available for guests.

By prior agreement Araki also welcomes well-behaved dogs so your whole family can enjoy the break (not fenced). See our FAQ’s for more details.

Great location (walkable to grocery/lake/restaurants), good communication with host, house/amenities as described (comfortable older house). Would stay here again! Driveway is a bit steep (we were able to fit two small – like 5/6 seater SUVs).

A great little spot that is super close to the township. Heaps of space with beds downstairs and kitchen/living upstairs. The deck has a nice little view to the lake and would look spectacular in the snow. I bet the fire places would be beautifully warm in winter. Kitchen is functional and easy to cook in. Bathrooms were very clean. The art work around the house is an interesting look into the history of the town and the house.

We had a wonderful stay over Christmas. The location was perfect so we could walk into the village centre, tekapo springs and to the Mt John observatory. The house is well insulated, well equipped and has a good view from the top floor. Check in/out was easy.
